Hey, I'm Dave Konig. I've been around since 1974, and while that may not seem like a long time, my life experiences have been plentiful and documented in detail in a bunch of no longer blank journals. As a freelance writer I've had articles published in both the local press and in national magazines. Being driven by an internal combustion engine to continue writing and empowered by my experiences during the 90's in publishing, I've been blogging actively since 2005.

This entry is part 3 of 4 in the series Creating Your Online Identity

Your online avatar is one of two distinguishing features that you will have in the blogosphere.

The importance of choosing your online avatar has never been more important with the integration of services such as Gravatar and MyBlogLog. Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing an avatar:

  • You need to keep in mind how anonymous you want to keep your online activity
  • Avatars come in different sizes but generally maintain a box shape
  • An avatar that is 125px X 125px is the best size to use
  • Make sure your avatar is clearly recognizable
  • Don’t violate someone else’s copyright to an image
  • Making your own avatar is always better than using a stock one

Here are a few sites where you can find free avatars for your use:
